Update on the New District Boundaries
The independent Citizen’s Redistricting Commission has issued its final redrawn district boundaries and so I thought I would take a moment to detail how the new boundaries will affect our neighborhoods.
In 2012, the 43rd District will retain Glendale and Burbank but will also include La Cañada Flintridge (91011) and all of La Crescenta and Montrose (91214, 91020 and 91208).
Toward the southern end of the district, within the city of Los Angeles, all of Los Feliz and all of the Hollywood Hills neighborhoods east of the 101 will be back in the 43rd District, where they were for generations. The district also includes the Silver Lake and Atwater Village neighborhoods of Los Angeles and the Angeles National Forest. (As you might have surmised, California has very large legislative districts.)
I am pleased with the new district lines because neighborhoods like La Crescenta, which had been rather jaggedly split and diluted in the last redistricting, will be whole again. We will no longer have to explain to our friends why some parts of the neighborhood are in one district while other homes, just a few streets over, are in another.
If you are not sure in which district you reside or which government office to call with your opinions or needs, please feel free to call upon us. As always, I and my staff turn no one away, and we are always interested in hearing your views.
As the new year gets underway, a toast to new friendships and to keeping the old. Please feel free to contact me anytime by calling (818) 558-3043 or by emailing Assemblymember.Gatto@assembly.ca.gov.
