600 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada, an 18-year-old La Crescenta man was arrested for driving under the influence in an off street parking lot and hit and run. According to the report, deputies responded to a disturbance call concerning a person driving erratically in the parking lot of TJ Maxx and hitting signs and poles. When deputies arrived they witnessed the described vehicle driving away. They pulled the vehicle over and discovered a woman sitting in the driver’s seat. When questioned she allegedly told deputies that her son had been sitting in the passenger seat and had accidently bumped the shift lever causing the car to crash into a pole. Witnesses however reported another version of the incident. They reportedly observed the man driving the vehicle over a concrete bumper and into the sign. They ran to the driver thinking he needed assistance when the mother exited TJ Maxx and “ordered them away” from the vehicle.  Deputies conducted a sobriety test, which the man apparently failed. The incident occurred at 9:21p.m.
