Approximately 1,500 students were named to Biola University’s dean’s list for academic excellence in spring 2018. Students who achieved a grade point average of 3.60 or higher while enrolled in 12 or more credit units and whose cumulative grade point average is at least a 3.20 are placed on the dean’s list.

Those who earned a spot from La Crescenta were Ann Patrice Gomez, Kiana Karn, and Pauline Kim; from Sunland Christian Leonard, Young Chan Oh; from Montrose, David Yi.

Also, Talin Emmerson from Tujunga was one of 155 students who were awarded the President’s Scholarship – the highest academic scholarship a student can receive at Biola. Each recipient was awarded $19,000 with the potential to renew the scholarship each year while attending Biola.

Ryann Cerrina, a La Cañada native, qualified for the fall 2018 dean’s list at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Eligibility is based on a minimum course load of 12 hours and a quality grade point average of 3.5 with no grade below a C.

Approximately 35% of Belmont’s 8,318 students qualified for the fall 2018 dean’s list.

Glendale native Matt Schetina was part of the annual Instant Play Festival at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. Students wrote 14 new 10-minute plays as the culmination of a series of workshops taken with professional playwrights. The first show of the 2018-19 season, the Instant Play Festival was produced by Professor Kristen Kosmas and ran from Sept. 22-23 on the Alexander Stage.

Founded in 1882, Whitman College is a highly selective private, independent, co-educational, non-sectarian residential liberal arts college. The college is home to approximately 1,500 undergraduates exploring 45 departmental majors that lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree.

The following students graduated from Azusa Pacific University on Dec. 15 and joined approximately 1,480 graduates at the winter commencement ceremonies. From La Crescenta, Gary Bondy earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, Matthew Manalo earned a Bachelor of Arts in business management and Sarah Rubin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Youth and family ministries. Marie Gonzalez of Montrose earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing in nursing, Ada Narvaez Soto of La Cañada earned a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies and Abigail Rickett of Tujunga earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology.
