Finding and funding the college that’s right for you

Part two of La Crescenta Presbyterian’s “Finding and Funding the College That’s Right for You” is next Wednesday, Nov. 10 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. It is led by Pastor Andy Wilson and is open to the public at no cost.

The class is for both parents and students and the goal of the seminar is to help people to relax and actually get excited about the college selection process. Wilson has been teaching this seminar since the early ’90s while he was a youth minister at large churches in Kansas City and Cleveland. The presentations will be augmented with photos and graphics, and questions are encouraged. All participants will receive a large packet of resources that is unavailable anywhere else. Pre-registration is not required, but call if you are planning to attend.

Lift Up La Crescenta continues

Lift Up La Crescenta continues every second Sunday of the month. Parishioners from St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Glendale, La Crescenta Presbyterian Church and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in La Crescenta will come together monthly to bathe the Crescenta Valley community in prayer.

All are invited to participate.

Lift Up La Crescenta meets on the second Sunday of every month at 2:00 p.m. in the lower parking lot of La Crescenta Library. Meetings include group prayer and prayer station assignments. La Cañada Presbyterian Church to ‘Go for Baroque’

A journey back in time to 18th-century Venice will be offered by the La Cañada Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra in “Go for Baroque,” a concert featuring the music of Antonio Vivaldi on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 4 p.m.

Featured soloists for the Vivaldi works include soprano Lori Stinson, alto Diane Wallace and tenor Matthew Thomas.

The concert, part of LCPC’s Ovations Arts Series, will also mark the debut of LCPC’s new harpsichord, built by a team of church members led by Dwight Tudor and decorated by Nancy Freeman. Kemp Smeal, the church’s accomplished organist/pianist, will perform Vivaldi solo harpsichord works “to demonstrate the instrument’s colors and capabilities,” Lantz said, while also playing the harpsichord in the orchestra for all of the music in the concert.

To enhance the time-travel experience, each movement of the music will be accompanied by projections of art by renowned Venetian and Florentine Renaissance painters on an overhead screen, a “4-D experience” popularized at past Ovations events.

At 3 p.m., a lecture on the context of Vivaldi’s music in early-18th-century Venice will be delivered by Thomas, the tenor soloist, in the Worship Arts Center. The concert will follow in the church Sanctuary.
