Foothills Community Contributes to Toy Giveaway

Cornell Ward, program director for Chapter TWO Inc., Landon Smith and Pamela Dong of The Salvation Army – California South Division and George Almeida of The Church of Scientology Mission of Foothills collaborated to make sure needy kids of South LA got gifts this year.

In the spirit of the holiday season, a toy giveaway of over 12,000 toys was organized by Chapter TWO Inc., one of the Gang Reduction & Youth Development (GRYD) groups in South Los Angeles, and the Church of Scientology Mission of the Foothills in Montrose.

The Foothills Mission placed collection boxes in local businesses in Montrose and the Marine Corp’s ToysForTots program in Pasadena and the Salvation Army in South Bell, and generous private donors helped provide the toys. It was a group effort to sort all the toys by age and gender and distribute them to the South LA children who were guests at the giveaway on Dec. 22 in time for Christmas. Chapter TWO Inc. also provided shoes to each child.

“These members of Chapter Two Inc. are true heroes in improving the quality of life in these areas of the LA community,” said George Almeida, the community rep for the Mission of the Foothills. “Since its inception, Gerald Cavitt, CEO, and Cornell Ward, program director, and the rest of the team at Chapter TWO, along with other GRYD groups, have been instrumental in reducing gang-related homicides from 1,300 a year to 300 a year in Los Angeles.”

“As our founder L. Ron Hubbard said, ‘On the day we can fully trust each other there will be peace on earth.’ To this end, it is our pleasure to support the efforts of and collaborate with groups like Chapter TWO, using our Drug-Free World program and other social betterment activities.”
