Red Tag Removed at La Cañada Home

La Cañada Flintridge Building and Safety has removed the Red Tag warning issued on Thursday, Jan. 17, to a home in the 2100 block of Tondolea Lane.

The Los Angeles County Fire Dept., Station 19, responded to the property concerning a compromised wall near the Taco Bell in the 2100 block of Foothill Boulevard, said Capt. Scott Pugh, Station 19.

Firefighters found two affected areas, the retaining wall and the Tondolea home on the hill above Taco Bell. After a preliminary investigation, the home was Red Tagged. It does appear that rain was a factor in creating the damage, he said.

The home, which includes a pool on the property, and the area was temporarily closed as La Cañada Flintridge Building and Safety inspectors investigated the damage.

The home and area were inspected and Building and Safety representatives found the home was safe.

The home and pool were found to be built on bedrock, said Susan Koleda, La Cañada Flintridge director of community development, as determined by the City and LA County geologist.

The homeowner is required to hire an engineer to create a detailed plan, including geological composition, of future construction.

“That plan will be submitted to Building and Safety staff for review,” Koleda said.
