CVTC Meets Tonight

The general meeting of the CV Town Council is tonight, Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at the community room of the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd.

At this month’s Town Council meeting will be a presentation from Clean Power Alliance, a new electricity supply provider that offers clean, renewable energy at competitive rates.

 

High-Speed Funding Cancelled

The U.S. Dept. of Transportation announced on Tuesday that the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) intends to cancel $929 million in federal grant funds yet to be paid for the California High-Speed Rail project envisioned to connect the L.A. Basin to the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition, the Department announced it is actively exploring every legal option to seek the return from California of $2.5 billion in federal funds FRA previously granted for this now-defunct project. FRA Administrator Ronald L. Batory notified the California HSR Authority (CHSRA) of this action in a letter issued Tuesday.

 

Rosemont Preserve
Docent-Led Tour

All are invited on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for an exploration of the Preserve and the native plants. FormLA Landscaping president Cassy Aoyagi will lead a tour of the Preserve focused on the
10 qualities of a fire wise landscape, why spaces like Rosemont Preserve are critical to LA’s safety and resilience, and the ways in which the Preserve has been renovated to support nearby homeowners.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels event. Sorry, no pets please.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave., La Crescenta. Wear sturdy shoes to walk the trail.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, Foothill Municipal Water District will be hosting a Rain Barrel Truckload Sale at Lake Avenue Church, 393 N. Lake Ave., Pasadena between 9 a.m. and
11 a.m. Rain barrels will be for sale at a community bulk rate discounted price of $65 plus tax. The Metro-politan Water District currently offers a $35/barrel rebate for up to
two barrels in a household.

CELEBRATE MONTROSE ANNIVERSARY

The 106th anniversary of the founding of Montrose takes place on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Harvest Market in Montrose.

The Historical Society of the Crescenta Valley booth will display old photos and other Montrose memorabilia.

Human Trafficking Lecture at GCC

“Human Trafficking: A Local Perspective by Survivors and Law Enforcement,” presented by Soroptimists International of Glendale, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Glendale Community College.

The speakers are from CAST (Coalition to Abolish Slavery and Trafficking) and the Glendale Police Dept.     

The event is co-sponsored by the GCC Classified Council and will be held in the Student Center. Admission is free and open to the public. 

The college is located at 1500 N. Verdugo Road.

 

Next Meeting of the CVCA

The Crescenta Valley Community Assn. will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m.  at the La Crescenta Library. The CVCA is a cross-jurisdictional, volunteer organization that encourages collaboration between community groups so that the Crescenta Valley can be represented with one voice.
