Burbank High’s high-octane offense and physical play proved to be too much for Crescenta Valley as the Falcons’ football team lost to the Bulldogs, 39-26, at Burroughs High Friday night.

The loss for CV (4-5, 2-4 in Pacific League play) knocked them out of the playoffs.

“They were very physical and they were very physical last year too. That’s how they’re built,” said CV Head Coach Paul Schilling.

Running back Sean Johnson suffered a major knee injury during the game and had to be taken to the hospital. There’s no word on what the injury is, but Schilling said it may have been an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear.

The Falcons have had a number of injuries at starting positions this year. Starting running back Marro Lee was out for the season in week 4 after suffering a broken thumb. His replacement Mark Sereno was out due to illness in the game, but is hoping to return Friday against Arcadia.

The Falcons found themselves down 27-6 at the half and down 33-6 after Burbank scored on the first drive of the third quarter.  But the Falcons scored their first touchdown of the game on the following drive to make it 33-14 on a 25-yard run from Wes Berg and a short touchdown pass from Paul Perugini to Nikko Domingo.

CV’s Kevin Fernandez scored another touchdown on a four-yard run to make it 39-20 with 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Perugini got the final score of the game on a 27-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-long with only 37 seconds left in the game.

Perugini threw three interceptions on the day.

The Falcons will play at Arcadia (6-3, 5-1) on Friday night at 7 p.m.
