CVCA Meets Tonight

The Crescenta Valley Community Association will have its monthly meeting tonight, Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. The CVCA is a cross-jurisdictional, volunteer organization that encourages collaboration between community groups so that the Crescenta Valley can be represented with one voice. 

On the agenda is Southern California Edison that will present its 2019 Wildfire Mitigation Plan. This plan includes the removal of 7,500 trees in 2019 and changes tree trimming clearance from four feet to at least 12 feet around power lines. Discussion will also be held regarding the proposed mixed-use condo project at 3037-3045 Foothill Blvd., which goes before the LA County Regional Planning Commission on April 24.

Superintendent Survey

The GUSD board of education is beginning the process of searching for a new superintendent and has asked the firm, Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to help the board with the process.

As one of the initial steps in the process, the board seeks public input on the desired characteristics and skills desired in the next superintendent. A survey has been prepared to gather this information and can be found at https://tinyurl.com/y4pjlhgb.

Participants are asked to complete the survey before April 3.

 

Public Comments Sought on Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Grant Request

A public comment period is open now through May 6 regarding grant requests that were sent to state officials to help manage some of the only local off-highway vehicle areas located in the Angeles National Forest, San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the Los Angeles basin.

The applications were sent to the state Dept. of Parks and Recreation and will be posted at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. The funding requests are done annually and this year the Forest and Monument have requested grant funds focus on facilities operation, road and trail maintenance, habitat monitoring, soil conservation, law enforcement staffing and regulations enforcement.

Comments are required to be submitted to California State Parks via its website under the “Grants” tab or by email to Ray Kidd. Comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. Monday, May 6. Forest staff will review and consider the public comments and then submit their final grant applications by June 3.

College Theatre Presents ‘How I Learned to Drive’

“How I Learned To Drive” by Paula Vogel will be staged by the GCC Theatre Arts Dept. for a two-weekend run in the Auditorium Studio Theatre beginning April 4.

Vogel received the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the work. The play focuses on now-grown Li’l Bit who ventures down memory lane of learning to drive and her formative years in Maryland. A story with lessons about the darker sides of life, and ownership and acceptance to those experiences, this journey continues to resonate for all in this transformative tale of abuse and power, and what remains as a result. The production is directed by Jeanette Farr.

Performances are April 4, 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. on April 7 and 14. Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for students and seniors. They can be purchased online at www.glendalearts.org or at the college box office in the Auditorium and other Glendale locations. Seating in the Studio Theatre is limited and there is no late seating.
