On Friday, April 12, the Crescenta-Cañada Lions Club will host its second annual fundraiser to support The Fire House Youth Center, located on the grounds of St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be open to the entire community at a suggested donation of $15 per person. Organizers expect to see many of the community’s committed leaders turn out to support the Crescenta Valley’s iconic youth center. This year, the event will be featuring the jazz music of the award-winning Crescenta Valley High School jazz band.
“For almost a decade, The Fire House continues to be a ‘Safe Place’ for kids who are at risk,” said Jeero Habeshian, president of the Crescenta-Cañada Lion’s Club. “But it’s much more than that. It’s been a great place for all of our kids just to meet, be themselves, and learn in productive, life-affirming ways. We’re honored to support this great initiative. Service to our community – especially the youth of our community – is what The Lion’s Club is all about.”
Last year’s fundraiser was a tremendous success, added Lions Club officer Bob Kawahara.
“Everyone had a wonderful time, enjoyed great food, and appreciated the opportunity to support this community treasure. And with the CV jazz band supplying the entertainment, this year’s event is bound to be even more rewarding.”
All proceeds from the fundraiser will support The Fire House’s existing programs and expansion efforts. According to Donna Machado, Bishop’s Warden of St Luke’s, last year’s event helped fund a much-needed facelift for The Fire House, from internal painting and repairs to lighting and building updates. Those renovations were a nice compliment to brand new wood flooring in the main rooms, courtesy of the Rob and Karen Tyler family.
“We want to build on the generosity of supporters like the Tyler family,” Machado said, “by updating the facility and grounds to accommodate additional programs.”
But, she emphasized, “Since The Fire House is strictly non-sectarian, non-denominational, we absolutely depend on community support. That’s why we are so grateful that The Lion’s Club has chosen to adopt us as one of the community service outreach programs they support.”
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is located at 2563 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta. A $15 donation for The Fire House Youth Center is requested. All event proceeds will go to the Youth Center. Food and beverages will be served during the evening.
