Pie Anyone?
This week’s warm weather is ushering in the highly-anticipated annual Hometown Country Fair. On Saturday – one day only – we are all invited to come on down to Crescenta Valley Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to enjoy a day stuffed with fun. Do you like classic cars? Well, the Hometown Country Fair will be showing off some of the best in town. How about live entertainment? Jean Maluccio of the CV Chamber of Commerce (the organization that is hosting the Hometown Country Fair) has some of the most popular local entertainers lined up for the day. In addition, fair-goers will be tempted with barbecued burgers, iced treats, and other fair favorites. There is even a pie-eating contest (for those 18 and under). And this is a dog-friendly event, too. In fact, a dog parade will be taking place during the afternoon to showcase our many fine pooches.
There’s fun for kids with inflatables plus games geared just for them. Special thanks are extended to Shakey’s Pizza in Glendale that is providing coupons to our young athletes and to Lisa Foster, also of the CV Chamber of Commerce, who is overseeing these contests.
In addition, there will be dozens of vendors with wares to sell, information available on a variety of local businesses and non-profits (CV Weekly will be there!) and giveaways galore. Let’s not forget our safety personnel who will also be on-site.
There will plenty to see and do on Saturday at CV Park, 3901 Dunsmore Ave. in La Crescenta. And the best part? Attendance to this epic event is free!
I hope to see you there.

I love fair food – how can you resist the smell of burgers wafting across the air? That’s why I’m so excited about next Sunday’s big fundraiser for Prom Plus – the Taste of Montrose.
The Taste of Montrose presents tastes of some of our local restaurants and food providers. These samples give a wonderful representation of why Montrose has become a dining destination. The variety of offerings is stellar too; from Papua Coffee to Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizza and from Ocean View Bar & Grill to Gelsinger’s Meat Market & Deli, there will be something for everyone at Taste of Montrose.
As president of Prom Plus, the after-prom event for Crescenta Valley High School seniors and their guests, I am so grateful to the restaurants and other food providers for their commitment to the Taste of Montrose. To see the current list of participants, see the ad on page 8. What’s really exciting is that more restaurants are signing up every day!
Tickets are just $20 and available by visiting the Prom Plus website, www.promplus.org, and clicking the “donate” button, stopping by the Prom Plus booth at the food court on May 5 or heading to the office of CV Weekly, 3800 La Crescenta Ave. #206 (northeast corner of Honolulu). Taste of Montrose is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your appetite and I’ll see you there!
