CV Baseball, Softball Move Forward in CIF Playoffs

Through two contrasting paths, both the Crescenta Valley High School baseball and softball teams were able to win their playoff games on Tuesday and have advanced to the third round of CIF playoffs.

The varsity baseball team faced off against the Thousand Oaks Lancers on Tuesday, and were able to squeak by with a 4-3 win. With every game being the possible final one for the Falcons, they brought everything they had onto the field.

The MVP of the game for the Falcons was Vincent Parrot. The multi-sport athlete was able to come up clutch for the Falcons’ offense. He recorded two doubles on the afternoon, and was also responsible for half of the Falcons’ runs in their second round victory.

Now Parrot and his team look ahead to facing Quartz Hill on Friday. The team will have to travel to face the Rebels, but should be the favorite going into the matchup. The Falcons have been considered a serious threat to win the CIF championship this season, but Quartz Hill has a high-powered offense and is perhaps the Falcons’ biggest test yet.

For the Lady Falcons, they continued their typical dominance in their Tuesday matchup. They faced off against Glendora High School and easily won by a score of 8-0. While the Falcons usually jump out to early leads to beat their opponents, they didn’t score their first run until the fourth inning against Glendora.

Behind its ace DeeDee Hernandez, this Falcons team has been on its way to a championship all season. It has the pitching in Hernandez and its offense is just as powerful.

Today, Thursday, it hosts San Juan Hills High School. Though upsets happen, if the Falcons show up as it usually does this should be another dominant win as the team continues its quest towards a CIF title.

The Lady Falcons will host San Juan at 3:15 p.m. while the baseball team will travel to Quartz Hill on Friday with first pitch slated for 3:15 p.m. as well.
