Detectives are investigating a report received from a Rosemont Middle School student concerning a man who approached her on Tuesday in a vehicle while she was walking home from school.
When interviewed by a Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station deputy, the girl said she was walking home after school about 3:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Mayfield Avenue and noticed a vehicle following her. The car pulled up to her and an unknown person, described as a man with pale skin, a beard as if he hadn’t shaved in a few days and black hair with some gray through it, asked for directions to Crescenta Valley High School.
She reported to the deputy the man did not have an accent.
She gave him directions to the school. The man then “looked her up and down,” making her uncomfortable, and asked her if she wanted to make $1,000 and asked her to get in his car. She said no. He asked her again, she said no, and fled the area. He did not get out of the vehicle but continued to follow her. She ran to a home and hid behind a garage. The man drove off, according to Det. Rodger Burt of the CV Sheriff’s Station.
The student told the deputy she felt the man may have thought she lived at the home and that is why he drove away.
The girl described the vehicle as an older model black sedan that had some minor scratches on the body of the car.
Rosemont Principal Scott Anderle worked with the Glendale Unified School District to broadcast a notice of the incident to the entire school district. Detective Burt continues to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact him at (818) 248-3464.
