Public Hearing Planned for Proposed CVWD Water Rate Increase

By Mary O’KEEFE

Crescenta Valley Water District will hold a public hearing on June 11 at 6 p.m. in the Crescenta Valley Water District boardroom, 2700 Foothill Blvd., concerning a proposed increase to water and wastewater rates and charges. Written protests by property owners must be submitted by the close of the hearing. There will be an opportunity for the public to speak on the matter; however, speaking alone does not qualify as a formal protest.

If the new Water Bill Impact rates are approved, a water bill for a typical resident with a 34-inch meter using 17 units of water – 17,000 gallons during a two-month billing period – would increase by about $10.65. This would be a monthly increase of $5.32. The two-month bill would increase from $152.13 to $162.78. If the Wastewater Bill Impact is approved, a customer’s wastewater bill for a typical residence with a 34-inch meter using 17 units of water – 17,000 gallons during a two-month billing period – would increase by about $3.33, a monthly increase of $1.66. The two-month bill would increase from $83.15 to $86.48, according to CVWD.

To submit a valid written protest residents must include the parcel site address, name and signature of the parcel owner or tenant, a statement protesting the proposed rates. Customers do not have to give a reason for their opposition; opposition alone is sufficient.

Residents can file the protest in three separate ways:

1) Mail to CVWD, 2700 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta, CA 91214

2) Email customerservice@cvwd.com. The protest must be scanned or photographed with a handwritten signature to be accepted. Emailed text will not be accepted. Please ensure scans/photos are clear and legible. Recommended file types are PDF, jpg, bmp, png or tiff.

3) Hand Delivery to CVWD, 2700 Foothill Blvd., La Crescenta. There is a drop box to the right-hand side of the door for protests submitted after hours.

4) In Person protests may be handed to the staff at the public hearing prior to the closing of the June 11 hearing.
