ace/121 Gallery presents glendaleOUT, a multi-venue LGBTQIA-based show, continuing through July 13. The exhibit announces the existence of the Glendale queer population, that it is visible, is viable and is part of Glendale’s narrative. It also shares with Glendale and each other the stories of coming out – either to themselves, to friends, to families, in schools, at jobs, or any other way/place/moment.

ATTENTION MUSIC LOVERS
Dr. Ted Stern, a professor of music, is again conducting a series of music appreciation classes for adults in the community. This is the 18th consecutive year of classes for non-musicians and musicians alike that explore the histories of composers and their music. The topic for this new series is “The Versatile Violin and Her Virtuosos.”
The 10-week series of classes continue every Tuesday through Aug. 6. Classes are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Classes are held at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church cultural hall, 2700 Montrose Ave. in Montrose.

NEW BILINGUAL PROGRAM AT GLENDALE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
A new bi-lingual Armenian/English program entitled “Take Your Life Back After Cancer” is being presented at Glendale Memorial Hospital on Wednesdays from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The program is free of charge to the public.

FASHION SHOW AND LUNCHEON
The USCVHH Women’s Council is hosting a Roaring Twenties Fashion Show and Installation event today, Thursday, June 13 in the council rooms at the hospital. At this event the new board of directors will be installed and the final installment check will be presented to CEO Keith Hobbs. This will complete the $150,000 pledge made several years ago to initiate work on the Neontal Intensive Care Unit at the community hospital.

EUBANK HAS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SHOW
Mark your calendars for June 15. Paintings, photographs and sketches from one artist’s quest to paint all the oceans in the world will be on display in “Danielle Eubank | One Artist Five Oceans” now through Aug. 1 at the Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture at California Lutheran University, 120 Memorial Parkway in Thousand Oaks. Eubank is a Shadow Hills resident.

FUNDAMENTALS TO PHYSICAL WELL-BEING
A free one-hour talk on the fundamentals to physical well-being is being given by Doctor of Chiropractic Alf Garbutt, who has over 40 years of experience and is certified in therapeutic nutrition. Discussed will be the basics of good nutrition, hydration in our semi-desert environment, proper rest and sleep, adequate physical motion and how the mind can negatively affect the body.

ORCHID SHOW AND SALE
Hundreds of beautiful orchids, many in full bloom, will be available for sale at the Orchid Society of Southern California’s Annual Orchid Auction. The auction will be held on Saturday, June 22 starting at 1 p.m. in the meeting hall of the First Christian Church, 221 South Sixth Street in Burbank. MCGROARTY JUNE ART FAIR
McGroarty Arts Center is hosting its McGroarty June Art Fair on Saturday and Sunday, June 22 and June 23 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Current students, community artists and craftspeople will be sharing their artistic creations across the tree-lined upper parking area while the McGroarty Annual Ceramics Exhibition continues in the historic McGroarty building. Throughout the brunch hours, the Culinary Institute at LA Mission College will be cooking up food and beverage offerings such as a savory tacos, nachos, and thirst-quenching fruit waters under the expert guidance of culinary professor Chef Jesse. There will also be a variety of musicians providing live music for everyone’s delight.

The Glendale Burbank and Foothills Association hosts Glendale Unified School District board member and local politician Greg Krikorian at its meeting on June 26. Krikorian is well known for his school board accomplishments and sound fiscal policies. He will speak on the controversial sex ed guidelines for public schools to include LGBT issues and school choice, and will inform on a variety of Sacramento’s school policies that affect every parent and student.

The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.
All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS
The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).
Participants will learn more about living with diabetes – care and treatment, healthy eating strategies – the importance of blood glucose monitoring and AIC and tools for healthy life style to reduce the risk of complications.

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y
The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.
The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
