Body Found in ANF Identified as Murder Victim

On May 12, Cameron Lykins was arrested for the murder of Houston Auer, which occurred at their residence in the 1100 block of Meyer Road in Meiners Oaks. Though there was sufficient evidence to conclude that Auer was murdered, Lykins had removed the body from the scene and would not disclose its location, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Dept.

On June 23, a game warden from the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife was patrolling the Angeles Forest in the area of Upper Big Tujunga Road and Colby Ranch Road when he discovered a man’s partially decomposed body concealed in a large brush area of the forest. The United States Forest Service, Los Angeles County Medical Examiner and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau responded to the scene.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. originally handled the investigation as an unidentified homicide victim.

Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office were alerted to the investigation and worked with the Los Angeles County agencies to identify the victim as Houston Auer. Auer’s body was transferred to Ventura County and the autopsy will be conducted by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lykins remains in custody at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on $2,000,000 bail. His next scheduled court date is July 10.
