Everybody Loves a Parade!

Happy Independence Day! Like you, I’ve got big plans for the day including riding in the 4th of July Parade sponsored by the Sunland-Tujunga-Shadow Hills Rotary Club. Last year was the first year that CV Weekly participated in the parade. Our office manager Rachelle, her husband (and chauffeur) Darin and I (photo right) climbed aboard my convertible to cruise down Foothill/Sunland Boulevard, waving to the hundreds of people who turned out for the annual event. It was so much fun that I couldn’t say yes fast enough when asked if we wanted to participate again this year. (To learn more about the parade plans, see the ad on page 11.)

The weather should be clear all day and into the evening when the fireworks are shot off the campus of Crescenta Valley High School. Ticketholders will have plenty to do between the time the gates open at 4 p.m. and when the fireworks begin shortly after dark. On the high school track and field there will be inflatables for the kids to ride down and play on plus live music and other entertainment. A number of food trucks will be parked outside the campus offering a variety of fare and an area will be set up outside the entry gates so diners can enjoy their meal (only water can be brought onto the track and field). If food trucks aren’t your style, you can bring your own food and relax in the dining area, too. While folks can bring lawn chairs and blankets to put on the field, the important thing to remember is that no chairs with post-type legs will be allowed in. The CV Fireworks Association wants to make sure that it does not pierce the artificial turf of the CV High School field.

Tickets are $10 (children under 7 are free) and available for purchase at the high school in the afternoon. This is the only fireworks show in the valley, so don’t be surprised if it’s crowded. Parking is available in nearby neighborhoods or for a nominal fee at adjacent school lots.
