Introducing the Newest Member-at-Large Vincent Iuculano

Vince’s return to our community is a full circle journey. As the chief operating officer of the YMCA of the Foothills, he oversees three branches (Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, Crescenta Valley Family YMCA and the Verdugo Hills Family YMCA) that serve the communities of Sun Valley, Sunland-Tujunga, La Crescenta, North Glendale, Verdugo City, Montrose and La Cañada. Prior to starting his role as COO for YMCA of the Foothills, Vince was the executive director at the Gardena-Carson Family YMCA (YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles) from 2016-18, the associate executive director at the Santa Barbara Family YMCA from 2011-16, and the association director of Youth, Teen and Family Programs for the YMCA of the Foothills from 2003-11. Vince started his YMCA career in 1996 working in childcare and summer camp at the Crescenta-Cañada facility.

Vince’s love for baseball and working with youth continued after high school graduation when he was given an opportunity to coach baseball at Glendale Community College from 1999-02. During this time he was also appointed as a regional scout for the Texas Rangers of Major League Baseball responsible for covering junior college baseball teams in the San Fernando Valley and South Bay.

As Vince’s role with the YMCA continued to grow from 2003 to 2007, he grudgingly stepped away from his work with the college and professional teams and decided to coach a little closer to the YMCA, helping with the varsity baseball team at St. Francis High School in La Cañada. In 2007, Vince was given an opportunity to oversee youth, teen and family programming at both the Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA and the Verdugo Hills Family YMCA. His baseball coaching career had to come to an end.

Under Vince’s direct supervision, he and his staff helped to build the Verdugo Hills YMCA Teen Center, afterschool sports program at Mt. Gleason Middle School, the YMCA of the Foothills Homeschool PE Program and the Youth & Government Program.

In 2011, the Santa Barbara Family YMCA recruited Vince to become its next associate executive director heading up a $5M annual membership and program budget. Vince spent the next 5½ years building programs and relationships with the Santa Barbara Unified School District, Goleta Union School District, Santa Barbara Rotary Club, Santa Barbara Kiwanis Club, Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce, Goleta Chamber of Commerce, Santa Barbara Pony Baseball and Softball Association and the Santa Barbara Young Professionals Association.

Despite an extensive list of achievements, Vince feels his real accomplishment while in Santa Barbara was meeting his wife Kelly Villegas in 2012. Vince and Kelly married in 2014 and welcomed their first child in 2018. The three of them are now residents of Glendale living in the historic Rossmoyne area in a house built by Vince’s grandfather in the 1960s

With all the duties and responsibilities of his work, Vince maintains balance by gardening, going on backpacking trips in the Sierra Nevada mountains with his buddies, road biking, baseball and, of course, spending quality time with his wife, daughter, family and close friends.

Speaking with Vince, I found him to have great care and concern for the community and the organizations that serve it. His initiative to inquire and identify how his competencies can contribute is well received. Vince lists his core competencies as collaborations, operations, effectiveness, functional expertise, communication, mission advancement, community building, innovation, volunteer and staff development. All are needed and desired competencies for any board member.

The MVCC is happy to welcome Vince and his family to the community. We are glad to have him serve as our newest member-at-large.
