Fireworks, Earthquakes and a Fond Farewell
I hope you all had a fun and festive Fourth of July with your family and friends. We celebrated the Independence Day of our nation at Crescenta Valley High School with a full display of fireworks, music, dancing and games for the kids with several food trucks. More than 5,000 people were there to celebrate. This display and event were organized by CV Fireworks Association. Big thanks to the CV Chamber, the Fireworks Association, and all the volunteers for a wonderful event.
We were all reminded to be emergency-prepared when Southern California experienced its largest shakeup in nearly two decades on July 4 with a 6.4 earthquake and a 7.1 on July 5, shaking the region near the epicenter in Ridgecrest and beyond.
Let me once again warn the residents of our community that bulky item dumping is a violation of a county ordinance. Please keep our community clean and safe.
Also, on an emotional note, Vice-President Mike Claessens resigned from the CVTC on July 1 as he and family moved to the state of Washington. I would like to thank Mike for his dedication and his contributions to our community throughout the years. We wish him and his family the best of luck.
On Wednesday, July 17, I will be attending at GUSD meet-and-greet with the new superintendent Dr. Vivian Ekchian. The event will be held at the GUSD administration center boardroom.
We look forward to seeing you at the general meeting of the town council on July 18 at 7 p.m. in the community room of the La Crescenta Library, 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
