Celebrating the 4th
I want to share with you how much fun I had on the 4th of July. The day started with me riding down Foothill Boulevard with office manager Rachelle Miller, her stepdaughter Thalia (who writes our YA book reviews), stepson Wyatt, and husband Darin (who was behind the wheel of our car) in the Sunland-Tujunga Shadow Hills Rotary Club 4th of July Parade. We got a lot of hoots and yahoos supporting Crescenta Valley Weekly as we traveled down the street, which really made me feel good. At the end of the parade, we waved to Mary O’Keefe, who was taking photos. You can see her photos, and the ones we took from our vantage point, in this week’s Between Friends section plus there will be more online, too, as we took a lot.
That night, I made my way over to the fireworks display organized by the CV Fireworks Association and held on the track and field at Crescenta Valley High School. With the cancellation of fireworks at Verdugo Hills High School, the CVHS location was filled with people from across the valley ready for a spectacular show – and they weren’t disappointed! Before the display, ticketholders enjoyed live music, a visit from Representative Adam Schiff and Assemblymember Laura Friedman, emcee duties provided by State Senator Anthony Portantino, plus inflatable slides and toys for the kids to play on. It was a full day prior to the show. To see photos of all the activities, see page 12 of this week’s issue. Thank you to photographer Charly Shelton who really captured the July 4 festivities.
And congratulations to everyone who worked so hard on both these staples of the Crescenta Valley to make sure everything went off without a hitch.
