IN Brief

Rosemont Preserve Open Gate Morning

An “open gate” event is taking place at the Rosemont Preserve on Saturday morning, Oct. 5. This is a chance for residents to visit the Preserve and wander the trail at their own pace and enjoy the tranquil setting, the wildlife and the natural beauty. Photographers: bring your camera to capture the morning light and citizen scientists, bring your iNaturalist app to add the wildlife sightings.

The gate will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Friends of the Rosemont Preserve Committee members will be available to answer questions and present this community resource.

This event is free to the public and suitable for all ages; no reservations required. Rain cancels. Sorry, no pets please.

For further information, contact the Friends of the Rosemont Preserve at RosemontFriends@gmail.com.

Then on Sunday, Oct. 6, all are invited to prepare for another year of field trips at the Rosemont Preserve. Rich Toyon will lead a training on native plants from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. He will lead a tour of the Preserve focused on the native plant curriculum that is offered during the free field trip program at the Preserve. All are invited to become part of the docent team.

The Preserve is located at the north end of Rosemont Avenue, just past the chain link fence. As street parking is limited, please park at Two Strike Park, 5107 Rosemont Ave. Those planning on walking the trails should wear sturdy shoes.

Evac Drill Planned

A fire evacuation drill will be held on Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. for residents in the Briggs Terrace area. The event has been organized by the Crescenta Valley Fire Safe Council. Briggs Terrace has only one entrance/exit and the goal of the drill is to prepare for residents for an organized evacuation should the need arise. During a fire or other emergency it is important for community members to be aware of how evacuations will be conducted.

Notices will be sent to all affected residents in the second week of October.
