It was announced this week that Tyler Wright, President and CEO of the YMCA of the Foothills has resigned to take a position as President/CEO of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette, in Oregon.
Wright came to the YMCA of the Foothills about ten years ago and in that decade has led the organization to its place not just in the community but part of the community.
“I felt it was a good time to transition for me,” Wright said.
He added the Y has gone through some changes since he arrived including the resurrection of the Prayer Breakfast and Chaplain Services Program.
The YMCA Prayer Breakfast was brought back after a few years’ absence, in 2011.
“And the ongoing [partnership] with community organizations like Prom Plus is still a wonderful success,” he said.
One of the biggest successes of Wright’s tenure is the purchase of the former Foothill Athletic Club in 2016, now know as the La Crescenta YMCA. Membership has also grown overall from 17,000 in 2010 to current membership at 32,000.
When he first arrived at the Cañada Crescenta YMCA, he and board members sat down and reexamined the Christian principals that the Y organization is based on, he said.
The YMCA’s mission states, “Our Mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.”
“I will miss this community,” he said.
Wright likes being able to walk down the street and be recognized or into a local coffee shop and they know his order.
He is leaving the suburbs, moving to the metropolitan city of Portland but he is excited about the change.
He said his predecessor at the Oregon Y has “done an amazing job.”
Wright’s last day at YMCA of the Foothills will be Nov. 8.
“I will be here for the Prayer Breakfast,” he said.
The YMCA of the Foothills Prayer Breakfast is on Nov. 7 with breakfast beginning at 6:30 a.m., the program begins at 7:30 a.m. The theme is “Toward Love and Good Deeds.” The keynote speaker is author and former assistant to former President Ronald Reagan, Peggy Grande.
The YMCA of the Foothills Board of Directors has named Jeanne Hobson as interim CEO effective Oct. 14.
