STOP the REZONE on a Wildland-Urban Interface

Verdugo Hills Golf Course Property is within a very high fire hazard severity zone and high wind velocity area.

Another Fire – October 10th, in Sylmar, jumping the 210 freeway, and jumping a mile at a time.

The 210 and 5 freeways were closed in both directions and there were lines of vehicles with people “trying” to evacuate.  We must demand that our city does not rezone from 20 homes to 215 homes on the Verdugo Hills Golf Course – We need to be able to evacuate safely and there are no major street improvements planned with this development.  Evacuations in the Foothills are extremely challenging. 

In 2017 with the La Tuna Fire and the Creek Fire we experienced major gridlock, which could have been disastrous. We saw this major gridlock again with vehicles “like sitting ducks” trying to evacuate, close to the Saddleridge Fire’s path.  Also, the Verdugo Hills Golf Course Property response distance from the first fire stations does not meet Los Angeles Municipal Code.
