Grief Dialogues and Flintridge Bookstore present the book “Grief Dialogues: Stories of Love and Loss” today, Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.

Southern California contributors, including Diana Burbano, Elizabeth Coplan, Sharon Ehlers, Rachel Gebler Greenberg, Toti O’Brien, Vanessa Poster and Mary Langer Thompson, will be on-site.

Through the power of storytelling, “Grief Dialogues: Stories of Love and Loss” begins to break down the stress surrounding grief and the feeling that people are alone in their grief.

Then on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m., Flintridge Bookstore & Coffeehouse welcomes Richard C. Morais, the bestselling author of “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” who will present his new book “The Man With No Borders.” This is a moving story of forgiveness and redemption in which a dying man comes to terms with his mortality and long-buried family secrets.

MEETING OF THE WOMEN’S CIVIC LEAGUE OF GLENDALE

KIWANIS CLUB HOSTS TALK ON CRYPTOCURRENCY

The mysteries of cryptocurrency will be unraveled by speaker Luis Amaya at the Friday, Oct. 25 lunch meeting of the Glendale Kiwanis.

SPOOKY STORIES, TALES & POEMS

Sponsored by the Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council, all are invited to Bolton Hall Museum on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an evening of spooky stories, tales and poems plus games, raffles and contests just in time for Halloween. Come in costume, or not and plan to have fun. Spooky stories and poems are based on local community locations and happenings and will be recited by spooky Bolton Hall Museum volunteers and members of the Village Poets of Sunland-Tujunga.

Those who dress up can be part of the Promenade of the Costumes and the costume contest. Awards will be given in many categories, including cutest, scariest, best couple and more.

Bring a pre-decorated pumpkin ready for display. Pumpkins can be real or artificial, carved, painted, and/or embellished. Guests will vote on the best.

There will also be a raffle for one-of-a-kind handcrafted holiday items. Scary (non-alcoholic) libations will be made by mixologist Craig Durst.

Light refreshments will be served. Additional treats, libations, raffles and games are available for purchase.

This program is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.

AAUW-PASADENA CELEBRATING 85TH ANNIVERSARY

The Pasadena Branch of the American Association of University Women will celebrate its 85th anniversary at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Women’s City Club, 160 N. Oakland Ave. in Pasadena. SUZANNE LUMMIS HONORED BY CALIF. STATE POETRY SOCIETY

The Village Poets of Sunland-Tujunga, in collaboration with the California State Poetry Society, will present the honorary membership in CSPS to Suzanne Lummis, poet extraordinaire. Lummis will also give a reading of her work. The reading and celebration will take place on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Bolton Hall Museum. Maja Trochimczyk, CSPS acting president, will make the presentation.

COFFEE GALLERY PRESENTS POET READINGS

A program dealing with Mind Mapping for cancer patients will be given at the Cancer Support Community-Pasadena on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. The program is free of charge.

BILINGUAL PROGRAM AT GLENDALE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

A bi-lingual Armenian/English program entitled “Take Your Life Back After Cancer” is presented at Glendale Memorial Hospital on Wednesdays from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The program is free of charge to the public.

NEWS FROM FRIENDS OF THE SUNLAND-TUJUNGA BRANCH LIBRARY

The bookstore of the Friends of the Sunland-Tujunga branch of the library, located inside the library, is filled with used books on almost every subject. There are books on psychology, religion, self-help, cooking, classics and many more subjects. It is open during library hours (except evenings). Prices range from 10 cents to a few dollars. All books are donated.

All monies collected from the sale of these books support the Sunland-Tujunga Branch Library in purchasing new books, DVDs and equipment. The Friends also supports programs for children and young adults as well as adults. It is a 501(c)(3) organization, so donations are tax deductible. FREE DIABETES COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS

The Diabetes Care Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center invites the community to a free diabetes community education class held every Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital (Committee Room A).

Participants will learn more about living with diabetes – care and treatment, healthy eating strategies – the importance of blood glucose monitoring and AIC and tools for healthy life style to reduce the risk of complications.

BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP AT Y

The Crescenta-Cañada Family YMCA, in partnership with the La Leche League, is hosting a monthly lactation and infant development support group to help support new mothers. This monthly group meets on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m.  This group is free and open to the community and will answer all breastfeeding-related questions that new mothers may have.

The Y is also offering a Mindful Parenting Course designed to help parents connect to their children and raise them to thrive. This course is adapted from the work of Dan Siegal, M.D and will focus on reducing daily stress while connecting with your child. The classes meet weekly on Tuesdays. The course is open to all and there is a fee to attend.
