There is a strong wind event expected tonight into tomorrow. Much of Los Angeles and Ventura County will be hit with winds sustained at 20-to-30 miles per hour, and gusts up to 50.

San Gabriel Valley, including Crescenta Valley, has a wind advisory and Red Flag Warning in affect from tonight [Tuesday] at 11 p.m. to Thursday at 6 p.m.

“Anywhere north of the 210,” said Tom Fisher, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard, of what local areas will be affected.

The winds will bring colder temperatures in the 70s degree Fahrenheit range in the daytime with colder nights in the 40s and low 50s.

“The strongest core [of wind] will happen [Wednesday] around 4 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” he added.

The Red Flag Warning will stretch to the Hollywood Hills, Malibu and parts of the San Fernando Valley and throughout the Santa Monica Mountains.The winds will be strong and the humidity is still low, in the single digits. This all makes the fire danger rise, especially in areas like the Getty Fire where firefighters are still working to get containment.

“The strongest core will be in the Ventura County area including Santa Paula and Camarillo,” Fisher said.

Although it seems unusual to have so many wind events in a row this has happened in the past, he said.

“This is the fourth [wind] event in the last week to 10 days,” he said.

He added what makes this event rare is the strength of the winds.

The biggest threat from winds should be over by Thursday night.
