Foothill Municipal Water District (FMWD) announce four students in the district’s service area made the final selection of 36 art pieces that will be featured in the 2020 Metropolitan Water District of Southern California “Water is Life” student art calendar. The four were selected from 219 pieces of artwork submitted by students through 26 water agencies throughout Southern California.
In the calendar will be the artwork of first grade student Isabella McArthur of La Cañada Elementary School, second grade student Reya Etman of Paradise Canyon Elementary, eighth grade student Jacqueline Lee of La Cañada High School and ninth grade student Heidy Hur of Crescenta Valley High School.
The students’ art will be recognized at Metropolitan’s headquarters at Union Station on Wednesday, Dec. 11. The theme of the 2020 student art calendar contest “Water is Life” relates to the stewardship and conservation of water. This means protecting water resources for future generations through conservation and education.
In California, about 50% of residential water consumption goes towards landscape irrigation. FMWD and MWD can help community members improve water resiliency through turf removal. Currently, MWD is offering a rebate of $2 per square foot up to 5,000 square feet of converted yard per year – a potential $10,000 in rebate.
