Crescenta Valley residents are used to seeing snow on the mountaintops in nearby Angeles National Forest. To play in snow it usually takes a trip up the mountain and, oftentimes, chains are needed for car tires. But for families on Saturday at Two Strike Park all it took was a sled and some mittens.

The Los Angeles County Dept. of Parks and Recreation hosted a Snow Day and brought in ice that they shredded into snow for local families to come and enjoy. The event was sponsored by LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

Hay bales lined the park’s hillside as snow was shot out of hoses, making a thick layer down the slope. Kids, and some adults, slid down the snowy, sometimes icy, hill in sleds provided by the LA Parks and Rec.

Volunteers, including those from Crescenta Valley High School Prom Plus Club, helped kids climb into the sleds while others waited at the end of the run to help them climb out.

In addition to the sledding run sliding down the hill, there were two snowfields for making snowmen and having snowball fights, and a chance to meet Santa Claus for a photo op and imparting a Christmas wish.
