On Tuesday at about 10:40 a.m. units from Glendale Fire Dept. responded to reports of a fire at 56 Northwoods Lane, south of Crescenta Valley High Schoolon Ramsdell Avenue. Gardeners working nearby witnessed smoke and fire coming from the chimney of a townhome and immediately alerted the residents who were able to safely evacuate, according to a Glendale Fire Dept. statement.
Fire units arrived on scene within five minutes of receiving the call, located the fire in the far back area of the townhouse complex, and initiated an aggressive fire attack.
Firefighters were able to limit damage to the unit of origin and the attached neighboring unit. The fire started in the chimney of the fireplace; the actual cause is currently under investigation. Knockdown of the fire occurred at 12:16 p.m.
Once the fire had been extinguished, lengthy salvage and overhaul operations ensued. Along with assistance from the Burbank Fire Dept. and Los Angeles County Fire Dept., at the height of the fire there were nine units assigned to the incident.
Glendale Fire Dept. officials encourage all residents to maintain working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in their home to ensure the safety of their family.
