On Friday about 9:30 p.m. Glendale police received a 911 call concerning someone screaming, yelling and threatening to kill someone near the convenience store at La Crescenta and Montrose avenues.

The caller had given a description of a pick-up that was being driven by the threatening suspect. The reporting party told officers that two men were in a pick-up truck driving recklessly in the parking lot of the store. One of the men identified as Bryan Sawicki, 37, of La Crescenta, had allegedly threatened to run another person over with his vehicle.

Officers found a pick-up matching the description provided by the caller at Montrose and Ramsdell avenues.

“Sawicki exited the vehicle and began walking away,” said Sgt. Tom Lorenz of Glendale Police Department.

The suspect ignored the officers’ orders to stop. He was allegedly “acting odd” and moved around to the front of the vehicle. At this point officers had their guns drawn, not certain of what Sawicki was going to do or if he had a weapon in his possession.

Sawicki continued to ignore the officers’ orders to place his hands in the air and walk backwards to police. The suspect was finally taken into custody along with a second man, Robert Valantine, 25, of Glendale.

“While Valantine was detained in the backseat of the patrol vehicle he kicked out the back window of the police car,” Lorenz said.

A search of the men’s vehicle allegedly found tools and narcotics. Sawicki was arrested for being under the influence, driving with a suspended license and suspicion of possession of a narcotic.  Valantine was arrested for vandalism.
