Welcome and Appreciation

I’d like to start off by welcoming CV Town Council re-elected member Donna Libra to a three-year seat, Ted Yu to a one-year first alternate seat, Jeffrey Rodriguez second alternate seat and Ruben Gonzalez third alternate seat. Also, welcome to the slate of officers voted in at January’s general meeting of the Council. It is my honor and privilege to continue serving you as Council president; it is a pleasure to serve alongside returning councilmember Aram Ordubegian as vice-president, Daniel Kim as recording secretary, and Carin Hoffman as corresponding secretary. I look forward to working with our new treasurer Jo-Ann Stupakis, and I welcome them among the ranks of executive officers. I thank Kyle Studebaker for her service as a councilmember; we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.

Please join us for 9th Annual Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, March 7 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (doors open at 8 a.m.) at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church, 2563 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta. There will be performances by the Crescenta Valley High School Charismatics and the keynote speaker will be Dr. Linda Junge, principal of CVHS. This event is organized by the Crescenta Valley Town Council and various local organizations. Requested donations are $10 for adults; students have free admission. For more information, please contact councilmember Jo-Ann Stupakis at (818) 269-3295.

Now on to something that bothers every resident of our community: illegal dumping. Illegal dumping is a violation of California Penal Code 374.3, which makes illegal dumping on public and private property punishable by a fine up to $10,000. For the removal of bulk material, contact the county Dept. of Public Works. The easiest way to do this is by downloading the LA County app called “The Works,” which lets people take pictures then upload and send them. I use it for potholes around streets, but it works for illegal dumping, too. Remember, too, that any right of way/street (per county rule) cannot be blocked or violators will be cited!

Let me close by reminding you of the monthly general meeting of the CV Town Council on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in the La Crescenta Library community room at 2809 Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.

Harry Leon,
President

Crescenta Valley
