KAFNLA Inducts New Board

Glendale City Council members Paula Devine and Vartan Gharpetian were among the elected representatives with 150 community leaders to congratulate incoming President Michelle Sung and Incoming Board Chairman Peter Paik of the Korean-American Federation of North Los Angeles at their Inauguration ceremony, held on Feb. 15 at the YMCA of the Foothills.

Korean-American Federation of North Los Angeles (KAFNLA), an organization representing over 50,000 Korean Americans in the north Los Angeles County including the cities of Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena, La Crescenta, La Cañada Flintridge, Montrose, Sunland-Tujunga, San Marino, Arcadia and nearby areas, held it ninth inauguration ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at the YMCA of the Foothills in La Cañada Flintridge.

Over 150 community leaders and business owners gathered to congratulate the incoming President Michelle Sung, a business entrepreneur, and the incoming board Chairman Peter Paik, CCIM, CPM, an owner of EXP Realty. Among the attendees were local elected representatives, including State Senator Anthony J. Portantino (Senate District 25), Glendale City Council members Paula Devine and Vartan Gharpetian, who congratulated new officers of KAFNLA. State Assemblymember Laura Friedman (Assembly District 43) and Los Angeles County, chair of the board, Supervisor Kathryn Barger (5th District) sent their field deputies to the event to represent their office. Mayor Ara Najarian of the City of Glendale and Mayor Leonard J. Pieroni of La Cañada Flintridge sent congratulatory letters.

Crescenta Valley Town Council President Harry Leon also joined the celebration with congratulatory remarks.   

For nearly a decade, KAFNLA has provided invaluable service to the communities in the area with efficient and effective approaches to solving social issues, preparing for emergencies, assisting the elderly, giving voices to immigrants and honoring veterans.

President Michelle Sung stated, “I will work together with new officers and board members to strengthen youth mentoring programs and senior services, on top of our ongoing activities and events.” She then requested support and interest from the community.
