Barbara Ferrer, director of public health Los Angeles County, reported an additional 40 deaths as of April 14.
“This is the highest [number of] deaths [reported] for any single day,” she said.
She added that yesterday she reported the lowest rate hike; however, warned that Monday numbers were historically lower due to limited testing data.
“We did anticipate increases through this week,” she said.
This brings the death due to COVID-19 to a total of 360, which is a 3.6% mortality rate, Ferrer added.
The total number of cases in Los Angeles County has now climbed to 10,047.
Included in the total cases are Glendale with 269 cases, La Cañada Flintridge with 22 cases, Eagle Rock with 44, Sunland with 32 and Tujunga 21 cases. In the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, Angeles National Forest continues to report zero cases and La Crescenta/Montrose reports 10 cases.
At USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, there are eight patients with confirmed COVID-19 who are currently hospitalized, 30 who have been sent home and 19 transferred. There are 24 patents with a negative COVID-19 test currently in the hospital, 210 have been sent home and seven have been transferred. Out of the patients with pending COVID-19 tests, there are 10 currently in the hospital and three sent home.
