COVID-19 Testing Available

Those experiencing COVID-19 symptoms can sign up for a free test at Coronavirus.LACity.org/Testing. There are 30 locations open across LA County to serve residents.

Armenian Genocide Commemoration

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Glendale will present an alternative to its annual Armenian Genocide commemorative event that was scheduled on April 24 at the Alex Theatre. In lieu of the live in-person commemoration, the City of Glendale has coordinated a virtual experience to be released tonight, Thursday, April 23 at 7 p.m. The City’s GTV6 team has been working hard to produce a video montage of previous years’ events, which will include video messages of solidarity from a variety of high-profile individuals. The video will be broadcast on GTV6, channel 6 (Spectrum) and channel 99 (AT&T), as well as streamed on social media. In addition, the City of Glendale will broadcast the feature documentary “What Will Become of Us” produced by Stephanie Ayanian. The documentary will be broadcast on GTV6, channel 6 (Spectrum) and channel 99 (AT&T) on Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Let’s Clap for our Glendale Heroes!

In order to recognize the heroism of the doctors, nurses, first responders, and other essential workers working to keep people safe, the City of Glendale is encouraging residents to join together on Monday, April 27 at 7 p.m. to say thank you. Residents are invited to celebrate by turning on their outdoor lights, clapping and cheering for these heroes. Residents may open their window, stand at their driveway, front door or balcony to clap and cheer at a safe social distance.

Those participating are encouraged take a video and share it with the City of Glendale on one of their social media platforms.

Verdugo Hills Council Hosts Virtual 5K for Scouts and Families

Verdugo Hills Council of the Boy Scouts of America will offer a virtual 5K for families to complete at home between April 25 and May 9. A kickoff video featuring Scout Executive Mark Kraus will be released on April 25.

The Verdugo Hills Council presents the virtual 5K to promote physical fitness during this time of social distancing as well as to support frontline workers. Families and individuals can sign up to participate at https://vhcbsa.org. Fifty percent of the recommended donation of $25 for individuals and $50 for families will go to frontline COVID-19 health care workers. 

Once they have signed up, families and individuals will plan a 5-kilometer or 3.1-mile route to walk or run in their neighborhood between April 25 and May 9. Participants will receive a link to submit their time along with a runner’s bib. All those completing the 5K will be recognized with a certificate of participation. 

La Cañada Presbyterian Church Hosting Blood Drive

The La Cañada Presbyterian Church will be hosting a blood drive in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, May 3 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd.

Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, blood donations are down by 300,000. The Red Cross had a huge outpouring from the public for drives for the month of April; however, months of May, June and July are open. Since blood only has a shelf life of 42 days, the Red Cross is looking for blood donation sites during these months.

Those who wish to donate are asked to come to LCPC 15 minutes prior to their scheduled donation time to line up. Social distancing protocol will be followed.

redcrossblood.org; the sponsor code   is lacanadapreschurch. Donors must bring photo ID with them on the day of the event in order to give blood.
