More than 200 University of Utah undergraduate students presented their research projects in the 2020 Undergraduate Research Symposium, held virtually on April 20. It featured oral, poster and performance presentations via video or audio recording.

The Undergraduate Research Symposium provides an opportunity for students to present their work in a scholarly setting to students, faculty and other members of the University of Utah community. Undergraduate students from all disciplines are invited to present their research and creative work.

One of the participants was Lauren Tervet of La Cañada Flintridge, whose major is listed as chemistry BS, represented the chemistry department and gave a presentation titled “Synthesis Of Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles For Targeted Alpha Therapy.”

Army and Navy Academy announced that Dojun Kim of La Crescenta has been named to the dean’s list for the fifth grading period of the 2019-20 school year. Students with a grade point average of 3.80 or higher are named to the dean’s list.

Founded in 1910, the Army and Navy Academy is a private not-for-profit institution that provides an academically robust, character-based education for young men, grades seven through 12. It is the only private boarding school in San Diego County.

Ali Sahimi of La Cañada Flintridge who attends the University of Southern California and Lauren Zaren of La Cañada who attends University of California-Davis recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

They are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10% of seniors and 7.5% of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10% of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
