Aug. 2

Angeles Crest Highway and Angeles National Forest, a driver and passenger went on a hike in the ANF. They parked the car off the side of the Crest and went into the forest. When they returned they found the rear driver’s window had been smashed and several items stolen including credit cards. After reporting the theft one of the victims told deputies that various unauthorized charges were made on her stolen credit cards.

The theft and vandalism occurred between 8 a.m. and 12:14 p.m.

 

 

Aug. 1

1000 block of Olive Lane in La Cañada, a resident heard the alarm activate on his locked vehicle parked outside his home. The resident found the front driver’s side window smashed and items stolen. During the investigation deputies found another vehicle in the same block had a smashed window. Surveillance video revealed two suspects in the area at the time. One suspect walked up to the driver’s side of the vehicle and, with a bat or similar object, smashed the vehicle’s front window shattering the glass.

The first theft and vandalism occurred at 1:50 a.m.

 

1000 block of Olive Lane in La Cañada, as referenced above a vehicle’s front driver’s side window was smashed and items were stolen at 1:45 a.m.

 

 

July 31

4500 block of Encinas Drive in La Cañada, a principal of a school was notified by one of her co-workers that her parked vehicle had been vandalized while parked in the staff parking lot. She discovered the rear window of her vehicle had been shattered, apparently with a large rock found nearby, and broken eggs had been smashed on the exterior body of the vehicle. Surveillance footage showed a person, described as an Asian adult male, wearing a backwards red baseball cap, gray shirt, blue jean shorts and black sandals, walking near the main entrance of the school at 12:15 p.m. The surveillance cameras showed him again walking near her vehicle in the parking lot where he appeared to be holding an object in his hand but she was not able to see him strike the vehicle. The suspect appears to be the same person who has been involved in multiple vandalism incidents at the school.

The vandalism occurred between noon and 12:30 p.m.

 

5700 block of Palm Drive in La Cañada, someone entered an unlocked vehicle and stole several items between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

 

 

July 29

3000 block of Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta, two male suspects entered the Walgreens store and began taking several items off the shelves of the store and placing them either in the pockets of their pants or in a plastic bag they brought with them. An employee first asked if he could help them by getting them a shopping cart but they said no. The unusual behavior continued so the employee began filming the two men who then walked out of the store with the items without attempting to pay. The two men got into a gray Mercedes-Benz that was parked in the parking lot with a third man as the driver. The vehicle left the area.

The theft occurred between 5:29 p.m. and 5:37 p.m.

 

 

July 12

3600 block of Hampstead Road in La Cañada, a man reported a rifle missing from his home after moving to La Cañada. He reported that he had hired a company to transport his possessions from Illinois to La Cañada. In early February the items were inventoried and the firearm was part of that inventory. The items were stored in a warehouse until mid-July when they were transported to his new home in La Cañada.

When he looked through his possessions he found the rifle, which is a family heirloom, was missing. He called the moving company which told him they could not find the item but would continue to investigate. He reported the theft to Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept./CV Station. 

The theft was between Feb. 12 and July 29.

 

July 3

2200 block of Maurice Avenue in La Crescenta, a mailbox was broken into and mail was removed at 1 a.m.

 

July 25

300 block of Saint Katherine Drive in La Cañada, deputies responded to a burglary alarm call. They found the back door of the home was open but nothing appeared to be disturbed inside the home. The owner arrived and did discover several pieces of jewelry had been stolen.

The burglary occurred at 9:52 p.m.

 

July 23

2200 block of Shields Street in La Crescenta, while a man was inside his home he heard the sound of something being thrown into his pool. When he checked he found a bottle containing an unknown powdery substance in his pool. He had to drain and clean the pool at considerable expense because he could not identify the substance.

The damage/vandalism occurred at 2 p.m.

 

4500 block of Belita Lane in La Cañada, while a woman and her boyfriend were at home watching television someone entered a bedroom and stole items from the house. The incident occurred between 8 p.m. and 1:40 a.m.

 

 

July 20

2200 block of Del Mar Road in Montrose, a resident had chained his bicycle to his motorcycle in his home’s parking structure. He left his home and his bicycle was there; when he returned the chain had been cut and his bike was gone.

The theft occurred between July 20 and July 22.

 

July 18

2300 block of Henrietta Avenue in La Crescenta, a man reported that he had posted a political message on Facebook and the next morning his sister received a text message on her cellphone from an unknown number with a threat to the man’s life. He found the telephone number linked to a person on Facebook who he did not know. He called that number but there was no answer. His concern is how the person got his sister’s phone number and if that person has more information concerning either himself or his family.

The criminal threat was made at 8:38 a.m.

 

July 17

2000 block of Los Amigos Avenue in La Cañada Flintridge, a resident reported receiving an alert from his “Ring” door camera. He reportedly saw a man looking into his company-assigned vehicle that was parked in the driveway of his home. The suspect attempted to open the doors of the vehicle but found the doors locked and was unsuccessful. After realizing the car doors were locked the suspect then attempted to open the iron gate leading to the man’s home. It too was locked and the man left the area.

The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m.

 

4400 block of Cloud Avenue in La Crescenta, a tow truck that had been parked at the location was reported stolen. Prior to law enforcement entering into the computer the tow truck stolen an employee reported he received a phone call and was told his truck had been found in Tujunga near Tujunga Canyon Boulevard and Cardamine Place.

The tow truck was found with its doors unlocked and the ignition switch wires cut. The body and interior of the truck had been damaged and several tools had been stolen.

The theft occurred overnight.

 

July 17

4900 block of Rupert Lane in La Cañada, several items were stolen from a vehicle overnight.

 

July 12

5500 block of Terrace Drive in La Crescenta, a woman reported receiving a phone call on her landline phone from a telemarking company attempting to sell her home renovation services. When she asked questions the person on the phone immediately hung up. The phone rang again and the resident let it go to her messaging service. The male voice on the other end of the line left a threatening message. The matter is under investigation.

The phone call came in at 2:16 p.m.

 

July 10

2800 Prospect Avenue in La Crescenta, a garage door opener was stolen from a vehicle  overnight.

 

July 9

4400 block of Oak Grove Drive in La Cañada Flintridge, a classroom at the high school was vandalized. Both windows in the classroom were smashed out, numerous light fixtures were damaged as were five panels. Two dry ease boards were damaged with black permanent marker, numerous ceiling tiles and eight desks were damaged. Carpet in the room was vandalized with white paint. A DVD player, along with two televisions and a phone handset, was torn from the phone cord.

The vandalism and burglary occurred overnight.

 

July 6

19600 block of North Trail Canyon Road in Tujunga near the Angeles National Forest, a woman reported she had parked and locked her vehicle near Trail Canyon when she went for a hike. When she returned to her vehicle she used her key fob to open the doors, which it did. She did not notice anything unusual in her vehicle as she drove away from the location; however, as she was driving she noticed her vehicle’s doors automatically locked and unlocked multiple times. She got out of her vehicle to inspect the locking mechanism. When she attempted to insert her vehicle key into the side door something blocked it from engaging completely. She attempted to unlock her door manually with the key but it did not work. She realized someone had tampered with her car.

She then went to the trunk to see if her purse was there. It was but the cash from her wallet and two credit cards had been stolen.

The vehicle burglary occurred between 1:41 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. 

 

July 8

1400 block of Sugar Loaf Drive in La Cañada Flintridge, deputies responded to an alarm call concerning a residential burglary. Upon arriving deputies found the front door of the home was open and the glass door window in the back of the home had been shattered. There was no one at the home at the time deputies arrived. The homeowner was contacted and when she arrived she told deputies the doors and windows were secure when she left. There was a safe missing from the home.

The burglary occurred between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
