Members of the Glendale Teachers Association are pushing back against a one-size-fits-all school district scheduling proposal for virtual learning that it states ignores the instructional needs of students and disregards the flexibility needs of their families and educators during these unprecedented times. GTA is launching a series of videos this week in an effort to raise community awareness of what the district is proposing, and of the experience and research-based proposals being offered as an alternative by Glendale educators.
“Glendale educators have used the lessons they learned during the spring and summer to develop recommendations that are best for students,” said GTA president Taline Arsenian. “We’ve provided a safe, sustainable schedule that is family-friendly and educationally sound. We urge the district to drop their approach and adopt the educator-approved schedule for the opening of school.’
The videos of educators speaking on behalf of a schedule that best serves students can be found on the GTA website or on the GTA Facebook page. GTA and the school district continue negotiations as the school year starts on Aug. 19. Community members are urged to email school board members and speak in support of the GTA proposed schedule at the virtual Glendale Unified School District School board of education meeting on Aug. 11. The meeting can be accessed at https://www.gusd.net/Page/641.
