To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the constitutional right to vote, the historic La Cañada Thursday Club, which was founded in 1912, will be illuminated in purple and gold at dusk on Wednesday, Aug. 26 in honor of the “Forward Into Light” campaign.
The official suffragette colors of purple and gold will be lighting up the front of the 1920s clubhouse located at 4440 Woodleigh Lane. An official suffragette flag will also be flying at the club. Elizabeth Knight, the founder of the club, and other early La Cañada Thursday Club members were vocal in their desire of raising awareness about the suffragette movement in the local community. Across America, the campaign will include the lighting of state capitols, skyscrapers, bridges and city halls to celebrate this occasion.
