Thank you for the wind and rain
and sun and pleasant weather,
Thank you for this our food
and that we are together.
~ Mennonite blessing
Thanksgiving is traditionally a special time of year for families and friends to gather together, share their blessings and reminisce about years past. While this year’s holiday celebration might look a little different from last year’s and you might not travel and visit with as many friends and neighbors, you may still be interested in what Mother Nature will be cooking up outside while you’re cooking inside.
Thanksgiving weather in Southern California…? I can say, without a doubt, since humans have roamed the Earth, there has never been a Thanksgiving Day these words describe: “Over the river and through the woods, To Grandmother’s house we go; The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh, Through white and drifted snow!”
Here in “our neck of the woods” the weather in late November is as predictable as who is/who is not feasting together on Thanksgiving Day 2020. Thinking of past years, in 2017 the Crescenta Valley roasted with temperatures in the mid-90s; last year was a reversal as heavy rain and a snow level of 4,000 feet was forecast. Still a week away, Thanksgiving holiday weekend: Thursday, Nov. 26 through Sunday, Nov. 29 is looking to be a blend of both as dry and mild weather is on the platter. Included are clear skies with a side of temperatures around 70 degrees.
Over the next few days, a slight warming with northeast winds is expected. Chances for rain the rest of the month look minimal at best. Regardless of where you’ll be or what the weather will bring, Thanksgiving is always a great time to think about all we have to be grateful for, even this year.
Enjoy.
