On Jan. 5 at approximately 9 p.m., officers assigned to the Glendale Police Dept. Special Enforcement Detail were patrolling in the area of Colorado and Langley streets when they observed a vehicle with its lights and engine on that had expired registration parked in the parking lot of a motel with a male seated in the driver’s seat.

Officers contacted the male, identified as 32-year-old Hrant Khachatryan of Glendale, regarding the violation and could smell the strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside his vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers located an unregistered handgun along with a loaded illegal high capacity magazine. Officers also located a hollow point bullet in Khachatryan’s pocket.

Khachatryan was subsequently arrested for carrying a loaded firearm in public.
