2021 marks the 95th year of Junior League of Pasadena’s (JLP) serving the San Gabriel Valley community. The JLP is celebrating this momentous accomplishment throughout 2021 by having its members complete 950 hours of training and community engagement, recognizing 95 women who have contributed to the success of the JLP, highlighting member’s 95 favorite recipes from its six cookbooks, and hosting social celebrations with its membership and the community all year long.

“The Junior of Pasadena was started to help train and encourage female civic leaders. We see the effects of this training all around us,” said JLP President Anna Agadjanyan. “For 95 years, our amazing organization has been adjusting to the needs of our community and working to make our projects self-supporting. All of these efforts have allowed new organizations to flourish, have their own journeys, and develop more female civic leaders, who in turn develop their communities and leave their own legacies.”

The JLP was founded in 1926 and for the past 95 years it has promoted voluntarism, developed the potential of women, and worked to improve the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The League has significantly contributed to the Pasadena Senior Center, KidSpace Children’s Museum, Armory Center for the Arts, and the Cornerstone Cottage in Northwest Pasadena among others. The JLP’s current focus area is the Support and Development of Women with a specific focus on the development of business, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills. Through this focus, the JLP has helped women in the community learn and flex new skills by leading Lean In Circles, developing unique Women’s Career and Resume Workshops for women who have been out of the workforce for a long time or those transitioning to new industries, donating clothing and supplies to Development Drives, advocating for statewide legislation, and reaching out to our fellow local non-profit organizations to launch PasadenaHelp.org, a database of community services available to the people of Greater Pasadena.

Prior JLP focus areas have included Nurturing Children Through Family Support (1997-2015), Girls Rock! (2003-2006), Kids in the Kitchen (2008-2015) and My Masterpieces (2011-2014).
