NEWS FROM THE CV TOWN COUNCIL

Happy Easter from the CVTC

On March 10, the Crescenta Valley Town Council reconfirmed its adoption of a proclamation dated March 16, 2017 in standing together as a community to promote equality for all its citizens, residents and visitors to the Crescenta Valley. The Council firmly stands against the recent rise in violence against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, racist, inflammatory and xenophobic rhetoric and hate incidents against the AAPI community have intensified across the nation and LA County. Racist and xenophobic rhetoric is harmful to everyone: no matter what race you are, the language you speak at home or the country from which you come, hate has absolutely no place in the Crescenta Valley.

La Crescenta-Montrose has always taken pride in putting families and public safety first. No one should have to live in fear of being victimized by hate incidents. As a town and as a community we must stand united in our efforts against bigotry and acts of hatred.

The LA County Library will be reopening! On April 19 the sites will reopen in the Fifth District, including Duarte, La Crescenta, Lancaster, Quartz Hill and Stevenson Ranch. More libraries will gradually reopen as time progresses and, in the meantime, libraries will maintain sidewalk services, book drops and virtual resources.

According to the California Dept. of Public Health, Los Angeles County entered the orange tier on Monday, April 5. The orange tier enables Los Angeles County to increase capacity for indoor dining, breweries and wineries, outdoor bars, movie theaters, gyms, museums and more. While this is a sign of hope, everyone must continue to wear masks, practice safe distancing and sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Los Angeles County Dept. of Parks and Rec, and departments in 20 other cities, are joining together to launch a movement to get kids playing outdoors with EVERYBODY PLAYS, a program that provides free access to a variety of recreational programming and equipment such as balls, jump ropes, athletic equipment and games when visiting their local parks. Youth can check out sports equipment at no charge while visiting their local parks Tuesdays through Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting April 1.

For more information and programs, please visit the Dept. of Parks and Rec website at parks.lacounty.gov/everybodyplays.

Last but not least, April is Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month. Why April? Many of the genocides of the past century began in April – those in Armenia, Germany (the Holocaust), Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Sudan. As many of you know, April 24 is Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. The Ottoman Empire initiated an eight-year program of terror and mass execution beginning in 1915 that resulted in the deaths of more than 1.5 million men, women and children of Armenian heritage. This year marks the 106th anniversary. Meanwhile, April 17 is the 43rd anniversary of the Cambodian Genocide, which resulted in 1.7 million deaths.

And lastly, do not forget our monthly Town Council meetings. For those who have an interest in attending and participating in our virtual meetings and want to submit comments and/or questions, we encourage you to please contact CVTC at contact@thecvcouncil.com.

Stay safe, be healthy.
