CVHS Girls’ Volleyball Defeats Glendale for First Conference Win

By Justin HAGER

The Falcons girls’ volleyball team earned its first conference win on Tuesday night, defeating a heavily favored Glendale Nitros team in three straight games.

CV pounced on the Nitros early dominating the first and second sets 25-13 and 25-18 respectively. The third and final set provided some drama as it required four additional points to be played before the Falcons secured the victory 29-27.

CV entered the match with a .500 record after a strong but still disappointing performance at this past weekend’s Burbank tournament. The Falcons looked unstoppable on the first night of the tournament, earning three victories against Brentwood, St. Genevieve and Immaculate Heart without dropping a single game.

The momentum continued Saturday morning with a 2-1 victory over Crossroads (Santa Monica) and a fifth straight victory for the Falcons. However, Saturday afternoon brought nothing but heartache as the previously dominant female volleyballers dropped three straight, including a heartbreaking loss to Taft, whom they had defeated just five days earlier.

With non-league and tournament play behind them, CVHS players found themselves more than 100 slots behind the heavily favored Glendale squad in the statewide ranking as the two faced off Tuesday night on Glendale’s home court. But with the dominant straight sets victory now in the books, it should be expected that the Falcon squad will move up both in the division and statewide. CVHS faced off against Granada Hills Charter on Wednesday night after CV Weekly press time, and then host a home match against Pasadena today, Thursday, Sept. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
