The Glen Arden Club in Glendale was the site for Friday night’s Big Strike Auction benefiting the Boy Scout Verdugo Hills Council.
Community members and supporters celebrated the Roaring ’20s at the 46th annual event. Those who attended in person enjoyed an elegant evening that offered an outdoor reception that included craft cocktails, wine, close-in magic and hors d’ oeuvres. Guests then moved indoors for a plated dinner and live entertainment by Dave Stuckey & the Hothouse Gang. They also had a chance to bid on silent auction items and enjoyed a live auction run by “Shotgun Tom” Kelly. The silent auction items were available earlier for online bidding.
According to Andrew Sisolak of the organization, the Big Strike Auction provided over $25,000 of support for local Scouting programs and families in need.
“This year’s Big Strike Auction was especially important so we could celebrate Scouting’s service to youth and the community during Safer at Home and acknowledge the start of Verdugo Hills Council’s second century of service to the local community,” said Scout executive Sisolak. “VHC and local Scouting units quickly switched to virtual meetings, merit badge sessions and organized in person programming at the family level so that youth could continue their Scouting journey during COVID 19.”
“We are so happy to be together (in person) celebrating Scouting’s role as a positive force supporting families, our youth, and improving the fabric of our community,”
Glendale resident and VHC board member Sam Engel added, “We were so happy to be together (in person) celebrating Scouting’s role as a positive force supporting families, our youth and improving the fabric of our community.”
