The Fire House hosted its first art exhibit on Tuesday. Teens from Crescenta Valley High School brought their works of art that covered a variety of mediums from pencil drawings to photography.

The exhibit was the idea of Keenan Shur who attends The Fire House on Tuesdays. Occasionally Shur could be found playing pool or watching a video with friends but his sketchbook was always close by. Aileen Bristow, an adult volunteer at the center, asked him to show some of his work. From that point on everyone knew Shur as the artist in residence and soon other artists began coming by on Tuesdays as Shur began making plans for an exhibit.

“It went well,” he said of Tuesday’s display.

Art filled the corner of The Fire House’s front room. The exhibit was organized and run by the art students and on view to those who came by on Tuesday night. Now the idea is to expand on the idea. Artists have decided to bring in more of their work and on March 1 have a larger, more comprehensive exhibit. It will be open to teens
that come to The Fire House but also to any adults who would like to walk through.

If all goes well with the next event, the group plans to continue to host exhibits and invite more artists to join.

On March 1, some art pieces will be available for sale. The proceeds will go to the artists to help buy materials to continue their creative endeavors.

The Fire House is a center where teens meet on Tuesday nights from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The kids play pool, video games or pinball as well as do homework. There are peer tutors in a variety of subjects available.

The Fire House is located at 2563 Foothill Blvd. at the corner of Rosemont Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. It is part of the St. Luke’s of the Mountains church property.
