The CVHS boys’ water polo team finished its regular season on a high note last week with three straight victories for the Falcons, including a senior night victory over neighboring Pasadena and a rivalry match win over Arcadia. The Arcadia victory secured third place in the Pacific League for CVHS. One night later, the Falcons closed its regular season with a home game match against Pasadena. The game also provided an opportunity for coaches and parents to recognize the seniors who are graduating and won’t be returning next year.
2021 was a roller-coaster ride for many of the players. The season opened with a canceled match due to a COVID test that later proved to be a residual false-positive. Undeterred, the boys pushed forward and took the world of prep sports by storm. After several impressive victories over traditional powerhouse teams, the Falcons were ranked in the top 35 in the United States by MaxPreps. Unfortunately, a tournament loss to Clovis on Sept. 11 marked the first of 10 straight losses and another canceled match for the Falcons, leading the team to drop just as quickly as it climbed.
However, a strong three-win finish against Pacific League rivals should put the world of water polo on notice that Crescenta Valley isn’t going anywhere.
The Falcon boys continued their winning streak over Pacific League rivals in the CIF preliminaries on Tuesday night. They defeated Glendale 10-7 to earn a spot in the Pacific League championship match.
The boys will take on the Burbank Bulldogs tonight, Thursday night, at Arcadia High School. The Bulldogs enter the match on a 15-game winning streak and are undefeated in Pacific League play.
