November is a busy month. Everyone is looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving and having a little family time.

The Crescenta Valley Town Council annual elections are on Friday, Dec. 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Sadler Hall at St. Luke’s of the Mountains Episcopal Church, 2563 Foothill Blvd. (on the corner of Rosemont Avenue). Special thanks to Antonio Gallardo of St. Luke’s of the Mountains Church who, as in previous years, very graciously agreed to host the election in St. Luke’s Sadler Hall.

Because the Town Council is a volunteer organization and since it wields no power, our community often makes light of our role and underestimates our influence. In fact, the Town Council has a lot to say about what goes on in our community and how local government money is spent. In recent years, the Town Council has been the driving force behind construction of our library, the dog park, the installation of signals and bump-outs at Rosemont Middle School, and the Foothill Boulevard medians.

The Town Council is also the gatekeeper for land use decisions that directly affect new construction throughout our community, and it hosts a robust scholarship program for local high school students.

On Thursday, Dec. 2 at the monthly meeting of the Land Use Committee (LUC) Los Angeles County Regional Planning will update the CVTC-LUC and our community of the local impacts/effects of SB-9 and SB-10.

This winter, grab your loved ones and head over to your local LA County park for some recreation and adventure! LA County Parks is excited to offer a variety of programming this holiday season ranging from youth sports activities to nature and wildlife exploration programs designed for the whole family. Today, Thursday, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day. While you’re making plans for the upcoming week, please join our friends, colleges and patriots at Two Strike Park at 8 a.m. today for special observance of the sacrifices made by Crescenta Valley community veterans.
