Next School Board Election Will Not Include Greg Krikorian

By Mary O’KEEFE

At Tuesday night’s Glendale Unified School District board meeting Greg Krikorian, longtime board member, announced that he would not be running for another term.

For about 21 years Krikorian has served on the school board. He had raised his five children in the district and feels it is now time to move on.

Throughout his career Krikorian has overseen some major changes within the district, from securing several bonds equaling about $1 billion to a new track and field at Crescenta Valley High School.

“At my foundation, I have always had a strong connection to the CV community,” Krikorian said.

The decision not to run was not an easy one, he said. Though he made his decision earlier not to seek re-election, he didn’t want to announce it in the middle of the pandemic. He feels now is the time to step away. He does consider it a retirement from the board though he will still be involved in his Glendale community.

“I was not going to leave in the middle of testing,” Krikorian said of his decision to postpone the announcement until after the COVID testing of the entire GUSD community after winter break.

He praised his fellow board members, both past and present, and touched on how difficult it has been to lead the district during the pandemic.

Board President Shant Sahakian, who apparently did not know Krikorian was making his announcement at this time, said it was difficult to put into words the accomplishments and work Krikorian has done in his 21-plus years on the board.

Krikorian’s last meeting will be July 12.

CVW will be speaking to board member Krikorian and will have more details next week.
