The 2^nd Annual LCF Trails Game officially kicks off on April 1 and continues through April 30 and is co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada and the La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council. Entry into the LCF Trails Game is free and intended for all ages to get out into the fresh air. Prizes will be awarded each week, including special prizes for the top three participants who rack up the most points for the entire game. Whether participants are new to hiking, are seasoned mountain bikers or just want to hone their equestrian skills – this game is for everyone!

LCF Trails Game Committee chair, and Kiwanis member, Linda Fors said, “We have received a lot of great feedback from last year’s participants, and are excited to bring back the game. We hope to get even more kids and families to head out to the trails for health and well-being, and have a chance to win prizes. It’s a win-win for everyone!”

LCF Trails Council President and committee member Tom Reynolds added, “The month-long game gives everyone a chance to participate and enjoy the beautiful trails located right here in our own backyard. We encourage hikers, bikers and equestrians to join in the fun. The La Cañada Flintridge Trails Council is happy to once again be partnering with the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada on this event.”

Representing area youth and lending their tech talents are brothers Phil and Stellan Klemmer. Last year, Phil custom designed a website to make it easy to sign up for the games, with a QR code linking to the game’s “Point Input Form.” The form allows participants to submit singular or multiple challenges at the same time. A wireless device can also be used to view an interactive trail map to verify locations, take selfies to win prizes, tally up points and more. There are also new mystery and trivia spot challenges to earn extra points.

Each week, the top three point-earners will receive gift certificates valued at $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. At the end of the four weeks, the top three participants who have tallied the most cumulative points will be awarded gift certificates valued at: $150 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place.

The game is being held during Keep America Beautiful Month and Earth Day Month with participants asked to do their part by earning points by picking up any litter while helping to keep the trails neat and clean.

The LCF Trails Game committee members are Linda Fors (chair), Greg Brown and Trish McRae. Both also serve on the LCF Trails Council. Additional committee members are Kaitzer Puglia, Alice Perez, Georgina Mueller and Keith Eich, all representing the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada. Committee members from the LCF Trails Council are president Tom Reynolds and board member Jennifer Seastrom; LCHS senior Phil Klemmer and LCHS sophomore Stellan Klemmer are also helping with ideas to increase signups by kids and families.
