A transient is wanted for questioning by Los Angeles County Sheriff detectives concerning the Lady Bug fire, a small blaze in the Angeles National Forest that occurred six days before the Station Fire.

Babatunsin Olukunle, 25, is reported to have been seen in the Angeles National Forest days before the Station Fire. On Aug. 20, a small fire began in an area near the Lady Bug turn-out in Angeles National Forest, said Los Angeles sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore.

“Two U.S. Forest Service firefighters saw the smoke and [responded],” Whitmore said.

They allegedly found Olukunle at the sight of the fire, they told him to stay but he disappeared into the forest as the firefighters were attending to the fire, he added.

The Lady Bug fire was about six miles from the determined origin of the Station Fire.

“There is no evidence linking Olukunle to the Station Fire,” Whitmore said.

He added due to the location and timing of the Lady Bug fire homicide investigators want to speak with Olukunle.

Olukunle is a Nigerian national and had reportedly attended U.C. Davis until 2007.  His family reported him missing then but L.A. Sheriffs had only become aware of him in the last few months, Whitmore said.

Crescenta Valley Sheriff deputies had been in contact with Olukunle over that period of time because he was a transient,” said Sgt. Ray Harley.

Olukunle is described as  black, 5’11”, 220 pounds, black hair and black eyes.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, (323) 267-4800.
