An interest in people and their stories accounts for my often brazen questions to complete strangers.

Such was the case with Rebecca and Peter Moen, the perfect couple to introduce to our community during Valentine’s week. I can hear the strains of “Strangers in the Night” when I think of them. They met while dancing at the Pasadena Ballroom Dance Association, where Peter proposed to Rebecca as they were dancing to “Moon River.” They’ll celebrate their fifteenth wedding anniversary on May 18.

While sitting in Foster’s Donuts and watching people come and go, I was intrigued when I first saw Peter and Rebecca walk in, hand in hand. There was an obvious air of love and appreciation between them. In these times of high divorce rates, displays of respect are heartening. While chatting over coffee served by Baristas Lorena and Eddie, Rebecca and Peter shared their story.

Rebecca was raised in LaVerne. She graduated from Bonita High School, went on to attend Mount San Antonio College and then worked for Bank of America. She retired from the Montrose Branch on Feb. 1, 2010.

Peter graduated from Marshall High School, and then completed an M.B.A. from UCLA. He worked for several large firms and then headed up his Organizational Training business. He still is a part-time consultant.

These two know how to have fun! Their shared hobbies are reading, puzzles, hiking and taking walks.

When traveling, they avoid tours instead enjoying “find it yourself” trips. Their favorite vacation spot is Hawaii.
During their last stay, they discovered a fifteen room hotel for fewer than one hundred dollars a day, including breakfast.

Those who frequent dances at the Burbank Jocelyn Center’s Swinging  Seniors Club will immediately recognize Rebecca and Peter because he always kisses her at the end of each dance.
